Subminiature programmable VHF transmitter module

(N.B. This transmitter is obsolete and is included here only as an example of our work. Similar transmitters, and matching receivers, can be provided to order: smaller and with more features, operating at frequencies from VHF up to 3GHz, and with a choice of analogue or digital modulation.)

This is a synthesised VHF transmitter module for short-range voice and data communications. The module size is 50mm x 30mm x 8mm. Most settings are digitally controlled. A novel feature of this device is the programming method: the user creates a configuration (combination of settings) using a control program that runs on a standard PC. The configuration is downloaded to the transmitter via a serial port adaptor and is stored in non-volatile memory. Any number of configurations may be stored on the PC's disk for re-use.

Major features include:

All these functions are programmable via the PC.

The board has been designed for efficient high-volume manufacture, using surface-mount components (generally 0603) on both sides of a multilayer board. The case is a one-part chemically milled (precision etched) structure, providing excellent screening and rigidity with very thin walls. The control software has an intuitive, efficient user interface, and can be run on standard or palmtop PCs.
