Just to show that we're not limited to RF systems...
This is an internet access device with ISDN, modem and ethernet interfaces. It functions as a router, web proxy, web server, mail server, DNS server and firewall. It is optimised for effective use of intermittent dial-up connections.
Control and configuration is via the web server.
The operating system is Linux. The programming language Python is used for all high-level control functions and cgi programs, as this language is particularly suitable for rapid prototyping.
A batch of demonstration units was required urgently, therefore the design was based on an industrial controller board plus standard modem and ISDN cards. The chassis, and cover (not shown), were custom-designed to give a small package and distinctive appearance.
